Most visitors travel to Majorca for the sunshine, beaches, and night
life. This, the largest of the Balearic
Islands, has much more to offer. From
water parks to scenic harbours to picturesque mountains and local markets – all
add to the magic of this popular resort. It even boasts as being the family home of top tennis player Rafael
Nadal!
The capital is the city of Parma. As well as being the base for the island’s international airport, it is
also steeped in history and is worth some attention. Although Majorca has many great beaches with
water sports and less frantic activities available for the tourist, there are
also other parts of the coast line which can only be accessed by boat. Such secluded spots are also worth a visit,
but seek local advice on boat excursions and guided options.
Pictured here is one of the shore line caves viewed from a
professionally run ferry near the resort of Sa Coma. As well as taking people from one resort to
another, many pause for a while at such cave entrances – or even allow prepared
guests to swim in a ‘hidden bay’ for a few minutes. Such ferries also often have glass bottoms to
enable viewing of shallow water fish for those not wanting to dive in!
