The food in Majorca is, of course, traditionally Spanish with local variations.  One of the highlights of such a visit comes from trying a selection of ‘Tapas’.   These are small portions of meats and vegetables with a spicy sauce.  Mushrooms in garlic, meat balls, squid rings in a delicious batter are all examples of Tapas.  These can be eaten as a snack or as part of a larger evening meal with a glass, or two, of the local wine  !

For a true taste of the local delicacies, good use is made of almonds, olives, tomatoes and walnuts by the chefs.  This is also a good place for those preferring a vegetarian diet to visit; due to the vast supply of quality vegetables available on the island.

For main meals pizza with many attractive toppings is popular, as the visitor would expect.  Local sausage is also popular at meal time, and rice soups are a favourite with the locals.  For the vegetarian, and for anyone of course, a well known dish is called ‘tumbet’.  The paella served here tends to be noodle based rather than made with rice.  Pork is also a popular meat, one version has it wrapped in cabbage another is served with a traditional Majorcan sauce that enhances its flavour.  There are also many lamb dishes available, and when accompanied by cauliflower served with pine nuts and raisins – this really gets the taste buds going!
